Metheny, Jarett, MS, EFO
Jarett Metheny serves as an Assistant Professor in the Fire Protection and Safety Engineering Technology program at Oklahoma State University where he teaches Fire Safety Hazards Recognition, Safety Management, and Hazardous Materials Incident Management. His interest and specialization involves emergency response and preparedness efforts in government and industry. Prior to joining OSU, he served with the Midwest City, OK Fire Department for 20 years and retired as the Fire Chief and Assistant Emergency Management Director.
Throughout his fire service career, he worked part-time for OSU-Fire Service Training. He coordinated the development and delivery of a comprehensive hazardous materials training program, instructed in the fire officer, instructor, and inspector programs. He currently serves on the Advisory Board and facilitated a strategic planning process in 2013. He previously served as an adjunct faculty for the Municipal Fire and Emergency Responder Administration programs at OSU - Oklahoma City. His areas of specialization included Introduction to Emergency Services, Fire Administration, Fire Prevention and Inspection Practices, Strategic Planning, and Leadership.
He is a graduate of the Executive Fire Officer (EFO) Program at the National Fire Academy and is designated as a Chief Fire Officer (CFO) through the Center for Public Safety Excellence. He serves as a facilitator and advisor for the Oklahoma Executive Fire Officer Leadership Program and served on the executive board for the Oklahoma Fire Chief’s Association. Jarett is a member of the National Fire Protection Association and serves on the NFPA 1026, Standard for Incident Management Personnel Professional Qualifications technical committee. He is also a member of the International Fire Chief’s Association.
He is a 1995 graduate of the Fire Protection and Safety Engineering Technology program, obtained an M.S. in 1999 and is pursuing a Ph.D. in Fire and Emergency Management Administration all from Oklahoma State University.
