Stevens, John, PhD, CIH

Dr. Stevens has been on the faculty of the Fire Protection & Safety Engineering Technology program since 1997. Prior to becoming a full-time faculty member in 2001, he served as a Visiting Professor. He has taught courses in Industrial Loss Prevention, Elements of Industrial Hygiene, and short courses in "40-hour HAZWOPER" and "Managing the Incident". He served as Lecturer in Civil Engineering, University of Missouri-Rolla from June 1994 to August 1996.
Dr. Stevens had 28 years experience in engineering, safety, environmental, occupational and radiological health-related activities with the US Air Force, including 11 years in supervisory positions. He retired from the Texas Air Guard in 1998 as a Lt. Colonel. His Air Force experience includes thirteen years on active duty as a Bioenvironmental Engineer and six years in Civil Service as Chief of Engineering and Environmental Planning/Environmental Engineering Branches for Randolph Air Force Base. Dr. Stevens has coordinated extensively with EPA, OSHA, state regulatory agencies controlling occupational health and safety, hazardous waste management and community relations.
While with the Air Force Reserve, Dr. Stevens developed and coordinated medical readiness training for a 268-person USAF Contingency Hospital, including establishment and supervision of annual disaster exercises.
