FPST Students Receive NFPA Research Award, Waller Scholarship and SFPE Scholarship

(STILLWATER, Okla., July 5, 2016) - Victoria Hutchison and Mustafa Alsadah, seniors of fire protection & safety engineering technology, were selected as winners of the NFPA Undergraduate Fire Research Award. Both of them received a stipend in the amount of $2,000 and the award also paid for travel to NFPA’s Annual Conference & Exposition (June 14, 2016 in Las Vegas), where both of them showcased their research projects to more than 3,000 fire and electrical safety professionals.

Alumnus Rixio Medina elected Senior VP of ASSE

Rixio Medina holds a bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection and Safety Engineering from Oklahoma State University and a master’s degree in industrial security from the University of Central Missouri. He is a certified safety professional, certified protection professional and a Fellow of ASSE. Medina served as a presidential appointee to the U.S. Chemical Safety Board and was president of the Board of Certified Safety Professionals. He was introduced to the CEAT Hall of Fame in 2013 and recognized as a Distinguished Alumni by the OSU Alumni Association in 2009.

NFPA launches Fire Protection Engineering Support Fund at Oklahoma State University, University of Maryland and Worcester Polytechnic Institute

April 13, 2016 – The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), the leading information and knowledge resource on fire, electrical and related hazards, has created the NFPA Fire Protection Engineering Support Fund to further fire protection engineering (FPE) education and research at Oklahoma State University, the University of Maryland and Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI).

Alumni Chief Jenkins elected IAFC second VP

Tom Jenkins holds a bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection and Safety Engineering from Oklahoma State University and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Oklahoma.

Alumni Steven Gray elected ASSE Region III Vice President

Steven Gray, CSP, CHST (’98) was elected ASSE Region III Vice President during the March 2015 election. Gray will lead 15 Chapters of the American Society of Safety Engineers across Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas.

Dr. Wang Wins Halliburton Outstanding Young Faculty Award

Dr. Qingsheng Wang, assistant professor of fire protection & safety, graduate faculty of chemical engineering at Oklahoma State University, and faculty fellow of the Mary Kay O'Connor Process Safety Center at Texas A&M University, is the 2015 recipient of the Halliburton Outstanding Young Faculty Award. Dr. Wang works predominantly in research related to process safety and fire protection engineering.  

Lund Receives Waller Scholarship

Jonah Lund, a Fire Protection & Safety Technology major at Oklahoma State University (OSU), has received the $4,000 2015 Thomas S. Waller Memorial Scholarship from the Center for Life Safety Education (CLSE).
