Leslie Stockel Named ASSE Region III 2018 Safety Professional of the Year

(Hurst, Texas, September 11, 2017) The American Society of Safety Engineers Region III has announced their selection for the 2018 Safety Professional of the Year.  Each year, the ASSE Region III (Texas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma) presents the Safety Professional of the Year (SPY) award to a member who has been nominated by their local chapter and selected by a committee of his/her peers.  The SPY is awarded to a member who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in the safety field while making significant contributions to the society as well as advancing the safety profession.

Leslie Rex Stockel, MS, CSP, SMS is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Fire Protection and Safety Program in the Division of Engineering Technology at Oklahoma State University.  Professor Stockel worked in industry in the safety and health field for 27 years before joining the faculty at OSU in 2016.

She holds a Master’s of Science in Engineering and Technology Management and a Bachelor’s of Science in Fire Protection and Safety Engineering Technology from Oklahoma State University.  Her professional certifications include - Certified Safety Professional, Safety Management Specialist, and is an Authorized Outreach Instructor for the OSHA Education Center.

Stockel has been a member of ASSE since 1993 where she currently serves as Region III North Area Director and Deputy Regional Vice President. She has served in leadership positions in the Oklahoma City and Las Vegas Chapters.  She is a past president of the Oklahoma City chapter for 2014-15 when they were awarded the distinction of Platinum Level Chapter.  She has held other executive committee positons such as secretary, treasurer, president-elect, and newsletter editor.  In 2016, she was named the Oklahoma City Chapter Safety Professional of the Year.  She is currently a member of the Tulsa Chapter and serves as the OSU-ASSE Student Chapter faculty advisor.
