Professor Hanson has served with Oklahoma State University's Fire Protection and Safety Technology program as an Associate Professor from 1988 to the present. Previously, he managed programs at the OSU Environmental Safety Department as the Safety Specialist and also as the Environmental Hazards Coordinator. The programs included occupational safety and health issues such as worker protection, hazardous materials management and spill remediation/disposal, PCB management, and asbestos abatement.
Mr. Hanson developed curriculum and instructed in six courses at the Environmental Safety Training Center in Norman, OK. In this capacity, he taught over 125 seminar courses pertaining primarily to asbestos management and abatement as well as confined space management and rescue.
Mr. Hanson is a Past-President, Past-Secretary, and was a Board of Director for the Oklahoma Chapter of the American Industrial Hygiene Association. He currently serves as the faculty advisor to the OSU student chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers. The ASSE website is asse.okstate.edu.
Mr. Hanson currently serves as a faculty Safety and Health advisor to OSU Engineering Outreach. In this role, he is responsible for establishing curriculum and training exercises for the following HAZWOPER courses: 40 hour Site Operations, the 24 hour HazMat Technician, the 8 hour First Responder Operations, the On-Scene Incident Commander, both Hands-on and Classroom Refresher courses, Specialist: Weapons of Mass Destruction and Hospital-Based First Receiver: Awareness and Operations. In this capacity, Mr. Hanson has presented over 200 seminar courses. He was honored in 2000 and 2004 by receiving a nomination for the Faculty Excellence Award at OSU by Engineering Outreach.
Mr. Hanson is currently President and CEO of Hanson & Associates, a firm established in 1988, specializing in occupational safety technical issues, i.e., asbestos, hazardous materials emergency response, and confined space programs and rescue.
